Safeguarding Commitment Statement

At Canon Sharples Church of England Primary School and Nursery, we are unwavering in our commitment to the welfare, safety, and protection of every child in our care. We believe that all pupils have the right to learn in a secure, supportive, and nurturing environment—free from harm, abuse, bullying, discrimination, or harassment. Our staff remain vigilant to signs of distress and are fully trained and confident in applying safeguarding procedures to prevent and address concerns promptly.

Safeguarding means ensuring that everyone feels safe and protected. If you have any concerns about the safety or well-being of a child at our school, please contact one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs):

  • Mr Michael Fletcher
  • Mrs Jennifer Woodcock
  • Mrs Gemma Brides
  • Miss Carrie Kiselis
  • Mrs Katherine Rimmer
  • Mrs Hannah Pearson

We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our comprehensive Safeguarding Policy and procedures are available on the school website or in hard copy upon request. At times, we may need to share information and work collaboratively with external agencies to ensure a child’s welfare.

Whenever possible, concerns will be discussed with parents or carers first—unless doing so would compromise the child’s safety. Staff must record any concerns, observations, or relevant conversations and report them to a DSL immediately. If concerns relate to the conduct of a staff member, these will be reported in confidence to a DSL for appropriate action.

Attendance

Attendance is closely monitored by our Learning Mentor, Mrs Brides. All lateness and absences are recorded, and reasons will be requested. Parents are regularly informed of attendance patterns, and persistent concerns may lead to referrals to external agencies. Term-time absences will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.

E-Safety

We actively promote safe and responsible use of technology. Pupils receive guidance on how to stay safe online both in school and beyond. We encourage adherence to age-appropriate content ratings for games, films, and digital media.
