Our topic this term is:
Groundbreaking Greeks

This topic teaches children about developments and changes over six periods of ancient Greek history, focusing on the city state of Athens in the Classical age, and exploring the lasting legacy of ancient Greece. From a history standpoint, it covers the following themes: Ancient Greek periods – Minoan civilisation, Mycenaean civilisation, Dark Age, Archaic period, Classical period, Hellenistic period; Chronology and timelines; Primary and secondary sources; City states; Democracy; Role of men and women; Social hierarchy; Great Athenians; the Acropolis; Greek art, culture, architecture, philosophy, medicine and mathematics; Olympic Games; Alexander the Great; End of the Greek Empire; Legacy. From a Geography standpoint, it covers interpreting geographical sources. Furthermore, it links with Y5 English - Myths, in particular, Prometheus and Pandora.

Y5 PE day - Friday
Homework
Homework will be set on Purple Mash (Fridays)
Homework will consist of:
- Learning spellings for a test on Fridays.
- Purple Mash - Maths, English grammar or topic-related task.
- Times tables practice on TT rockstars at least 10 minutes a day.
- Reading a book from home or from school 5 times per week.
