Our first British Value Theme Week was a great success!
The week started off with a wonderful assembly led by Mrs McGovern. The choir sang beautifully and we were even lucky enough to have a very special visitor to open the week- The Worshipful the Mayor of Wigan, Susan Loudon!
Mrs McGovern explained what British Values are and what they mean.
The Values

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

We had many special visitors throughout the week and lots of wonderful activities. The police and a police car arrived to very excitable Year Two classes, Judge Islip intrigued Year Three, the children from Nursery and Reception loved asking Reverend Bill questions, PCSO’s visited Year Five and Reception classes and told them all about their community work,  The British Legion visited Year Two and Year Four and talked all about their roles, Naveed Hussai from Wigan Mosque spoke to Year One and Year Three and to finish of the week, our very own local MP, Lisa Nandy, visited Year Six. Unfortunately, on this occasion the Queen and Prime Minister couldn’t make it but they did send letters of apology!
During the week, we learnt the National anthem, created British food, joined in country dancing, sang and danced our way through the history of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, made scones and crowns, played tennis, designed a new James Bond, coloured in Union Jacks, designed, made and presented a Punch and Judy show and many, many more wonderful activities.
One very special visitor, which all the children loved, was Mr Whippy’s ice-cream van! Every child shrieked with delight as they received an ice-cream from school.
                Our super dinner ladies made traditional British lunches all week;
Morris Dancing Monday – Pizza and Marble Sponge and custard

Tickle Your Tastebuds Tuesday – Bangers and Mash and homemade fairy cakes
Winston Churchills Wednesday – Roast chicken dinner and jelly and ice cream
Traditional Thinking Thursday- Homemade cheese whirls and Scottish Shortbread biscuits
Fab Four Friday – Lancashire hot pot and Homemade jam and cream scones!
                                                        A Truly scrumptious Week!

The week finished with a grand finale open afternoon, when we welcomed family and friends to celebrate the end to a wonderful week.
We must give Mrs McGovern a huge big thank you for arranging and sorting out an absolutely brilliant week!
